COMPLETE WORKS OF ADI SHANKARACHARYA PDF

Sri Adi Shankaracharya is arguably the most important philosopher in the history of Advaita Vedanta. He taught the universality of the Vedic religion and successfully rid it of the contradictions of its partisan adherents of different schools. He also synthesized the triple way of karma, bhakti and jnana assigning to each its proper and necessary place in the unitary method of achieving liberation from the ills of samsara. He explained this at length lucidly and cogently in a language characterized as prasannagambhira in his commentaries on all three of them. That they have been surviving in the thoughts and utterances of men during the centuries that have elapsed since He wrote and that they have secured understanding appreciation even from people of alien faiths in lands far removed from ours is eloquent vindication of their truth and vitality.

A large number of short Advaita treatises, called Prakarana Granthas , are also attributed to Sankara.

These works are often used to teach beginners. A large number of Stotras hymns are also attributed to Sankara. These range from the famous Bhaja Govindam hymn to the Dakshinamurti Stotram. Apart from the aforementioned major works, Sri Adi Shankaracharya is also said to have written numerous other texts, like the Yogasutra Vivarana Bhashy a and a commentary on the Adhyatma Patala of the Apastamba Dharmasutra ,and commentaries on the Vishnu Sahasranam a and Lalita Trishati.

A Sankhya work called Jayamangal a and a Nyaya work called Sthirasiddhi are also attributed to him. Menu www.

Works of Adi Shankaracharya

Sri T. Balasubramania Iyer, Vani Vilas Press, Srirangam published the Works in a magnificent 20 -volume edition which went out of print long ago. The idea of republishing that edition came from an inspiring command one night five years ago: "Publish Sankara". I cannot adequately express my gratitude to them. It is proposed to publish, in due course, the works of Sri Sankaracharya in bilingual editions-the original Sanskrit texts accompanied by translations in English and in other Indian languages. The publication of this edition has been made possible by the generous gesture of Dharmatma Dr. Vaidyasubramanyam in presenting me with two sets of the precious first edition.

Works of Sankaracharya

Salutations to Adi Shankaracharya, who is an ever shining star on the sky of Indian philosophy. The forces opposed to Vedic religion were more numerous and powerful at the time of Sankara than they are today. Still, single-handed, within a very short time, Adi Shankara overpowered them all and restored the Vedic Dharma and Advaita Vedanta to its pristine purity in the land pure knowledge and spirituality. Adi Shankaracharya occupies a very important position in the history of Indian philosophy. It can be affirmed, without any fear of contradiction, that Bharata Varsha would have ceased to be Bharata Varsha several centuries ago and would never have survived the murderous sword, the devastating fire and the religious intolerance of the successive invaders, if Adi Shankara had not lived the life he lived and taught the lessons he taught. And those lessons are still pulsating in every cell and in every protoplasm of the true aspirant and the true Hindu.

Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam, Dakshinamanaya Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri

Adi Shankara , a Hindu philosopher of the Advaita Vedanta school, wrote a large body of works [1] which are central to the Advaita Vedanta interpretation of the Prasthanatrayi , the canonical texts consisting of the Upanishads , the Bhagavad Gita and the Brahma Sutras. His works deal with logically establishing the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta. Shankara formulates the doctrine of Advaita Vedanta by validating his arguments on the basis of quotations from the Vedas and other Hindu scriptures. A large portion of his works is polemical in nature. He directs his polemics mostly against the Sankhya , Bauddha , Jaina , Vaisheshika and other non-vedantic Hindu philosophies. The commentaries serve to provide a consistent interpretation of the scriptural texts from the perspective of Advaita Vedanta. The philosophical treatises provide various methodologies to the student to understand the doctrine.
