She's the kind of writer made to be a legend. Her life story is novelesque to say the least: an early feminist figure, an eternal outsider who broke through the rules of her generation, died at twenty-eight.

She had the life that writers simply don't have anymore. And something of that life is hinted in the prose poetry of Inquietudes sentimentales , but it never makes the impact that should.

Jessica Sequeira is a writer and translator from California, currently living in Santiago de Chile. Buenos Aires, This is not her first work, but it moves the coy language of her two previous books into tragic, more personal territory. It seems to me that the world was only made to help me evoke you, and the sun to serve me as a lantern over the rugged path. Wilms Montt reworked these familiar oppositions of metaphysical poetry by casting herself in the role of the poet attentive to death yet avid for life. Her intimate approach and sensuality set her apart even from other Chilean poets at this time, who were also interested in themes of death and the beauty that lingers.
