EL FIN DE LA HISTORIA LILIANA HEKER PDF

The novel, published in Argentina in , deals with betrayal, friendship, patriotism, relationships — all set against the background of the Proceso of the s. Heker is a very well regarded prose fiction writer who remained in Argentina during the Dirty War and who was never a political prisoner, two facts that cause her novel to be looked upon with suspicion by a number of her peers. The controversial subject matter of the novel also contributes to the rather passionate reaction this work has generated in Argentina and among Argentine expatriates abroad. One of the novel's protagonists is a political prisoner, Leonora Ordaz, a Montonera who, after being subjected to physical and psychological torture, defects and becomes not only an agent of the junta, but also the lover of one of her torturers. While this type of behavior strikes us as implausible and horrifying, it's been documented that such things did occasionally take place at the time.

One of the more difficult books I've read recently, this book challenged me to unlock the mystery of its form as it challenged me to unlock the history of Argentina. Seductive and descriptive, The End of the Story does not bow to easy expectations of how we want to believe we would act. Instead, it asks the question, "what are you really willing to fight for? I read this book for a Spanish class on post-dictatorship literature, specifically in the southern cone.

May 30, Meaghan rated it really liked it Shelves: bookchallenge , fiction , giveaways.

Really enjoyed this book but found it hard to follow at some points. Maybe it's a cultural difference in creating narrative or maybe I just don't know that much about Argentinian history. Both are possibilities. Really glad I read it though. May 29, Jackie rated it did not like it Shelves: historical-fiction , latin-america , giveaways , stopped-reading. This was a Goodreads giveaway book. I made it through chapter 1. The writing is very convoluted and hard to understand. Maybe it is a bad translation?

I was not even sure who the narrator was. I may pick it up and try again some day.
