FTA DESIGNING FOR DELIVERIES PDF

Construction sites must be organised to minimise the risks associated with the movement of vehicles and people. This topic describes how this can be best achieved: by separating pedestrians and vehicles, managing on-site traffic routes, ensuring only suitable vehicles are used on-site, minimising the number of vehicles on-site at any one time, controlling access to the site, displaying appropriate signage, providing a schematic site plan and enforcing site rules and a site speed limit. Under the Construction Design and Management Regulations , construction sites must be organised in such a way that, so far as is reasonably practicable, pedestrians and vehicles can move without risks to health or safety. The Management of Health and Safety Regulations require that employers who share a workplace must have effective procedures for communication and co-operation to ensure safety is managed in those areas where their individual and joint actions affect the safety of either party. Pre-contract meetings and reasonable accommodations go a long way to ensuring that there is a harmonious long-term relationship. Under the reguations employers are also required to assess and control the risks to employees and anyone affected by their operations.
